The Reuse of historical roofing material maintains good practice within conservation. Therefore, it is important to recognise their intrinsic value, due it’s natural beauty, craftmanship and historical significance. In-terms of sustainability, it is less environmentally impactful in comparison with the reproduction of new roofing material, that produces high carbon footprint in the manufacture, packaging and transport cycle.
However, there are complex challenges when choosing to endorse reclaimed roofing material. For instance, a lot of material when available may be end of life or poor condition, not to mention non- productive material that has almost become non-existent.
